Experimental Design:

I am going to conduct an experiment that will help me determine which liquid helps you digest food the fastest. Since it is important to test the liquids, the experiment will be held at my house. There will be one person, me, involved with the experiment. I will be putting the Jello in the cup filled with liquid. Five different liquids will be tested. Each liquid will be tested two times. This means that I will have drop the Jello twenty five times. All the data will be recorded on a printed out copy of a spreadsheet, which will then be transferred onto the computer when I am at school. The entire experiment will be documented by a digital camera. The pictures will be uploaded and saved on the computer. I plan to email the images to my science teacher so that I can access them once I get to school. Once they are saved to my x-drive, I will be able to upload them to my Wiki, as well as make prints for my display board.

Materials List:

  • Jell-O

  • Sprite

  • Orange Juice

  • Water

  • Coffee

  • Apple Juice

  • Lemonade

  • Knife

  • Lamp

  • Pencil

  • Copy of Spreadsheet

  • Digital Camera

Detailed Procedure:

  1. Set the materials on table.

  2. Place the first liquid in a see- threw cup.

  3. Cut a square of Jello and the put it in the cup.

  4. Place the cup carefully under the lamp.

  5. Take a picture for the Before photo.

  6. See how long it takes for the cube to disintegrate.

  7. Take a picture of the After photo.

  8. Record the time it takes on the spreadsheet.

  9. Repeat steps 1-8 with all the liquids.

Background Research

What I learned from the websites is that Enzymes are the liquids that helps you digest food. Digestion is the process whereby the foods we eat pass through our bodies and are directed toward the purposes of either providing the body with energy or building new cellular material, such as fat or muscle. Also, digestion is the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food into smaller components that are more easily absorbed into a blood stream, for instance. Digestion the act or process of converting food into chemical substances that can be absorbed and assimilated.
